This is the first of a series of compilations of tracks from my music collection that will feature various themes and genres.

For this collection "EPIC" refers to the length of the actual track, and my criteria is that the tracks be of a considerable length, at least 5 minutes and a maximum of around 12 minutes. I have chosen tracks that are interesting to listen to without be repetitive or boring and highlight the talents of the artist. I have chosen the tracks at random from my collection. Muzsikás: The Bartók Album - featuring Márta Sebestyén & Alexander Balanescu

 

The Muzsikás Ensemble was founded in 1973 modelling the early village peasant ensembles, the "muzskás"-es (music-makers) and they reflect the same world of sound. They have learned authentic music-making from the presently existing village orchestras and musicians. On their first LP, "Living Hungarian Folk Music 1", they performed tunes collected from several regions of Hungarian-speaking areas. They were awarded the title "Young Masters of Folk Art" in 1974.

On this release they collaborate with Hungarian folk singer, composer and actress Sebestyén Márta (who performs regularly with Muzsikás) and composer/violinist Alexander Balanescu.

Harem [Turkish Percussion Group] – Rhythm Colour

 

Harem is a Turkish percussion group that specializes in high-energy drumming, incorporating instruments like the darbuka, bendir and zils. They create music with a blend of traditional Turkish percussion and world percussion instruments such as the djembe and tabla. The group is known for its dynamic performances and their music has been released on albums like Rhythm Colour, Harem II (Time Of Rhythm), Harem III and Rhythm Forever.

Instrumentation: The group's sound is built on traditional Turkish percussion, with the darbuka being a prominent instrument. They also incorporate other instruments like bendirs, shakers and zils, along with world percussion such as djembes and tablas.

Marisa dos Reis Nunes ComIH (born 16 December 1973), known professionally as Mariza (Portuguese pronunciation: [mɐˈɾizɐ]), is a Portuguese fado singer.

Mariza was born in Lourenço Marques, Portuguese Mozambique, to a Portuguese father, José Brandão Nunes, and a Mozambican mother, Isabel Nunes. When she was three years old, her family moved to Metropolitan Portugal, and she was raised in Lisbon's historic quarters of Mouraria and Alfama. While very young, she began singing in a wide variety of musical styles, including gospel, soul and jazz. Her father strongly encouraged her to adopt fado; he felt that participating in the traditional music would grant her greater acceptance in the Portuguese community. Mariza has sold over 1 million records worldwide.

Fado em Mim is her debut studio album, released in April 2002 by Dutch label World Connection. Mariza was initially rejected by Portuguese labels, who were uneasy working with an unproven artist. The album was picked up by Dutch label World Connection and was later released in 32 countries.

Fado (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈfaðu]; "destiny, fate") is a music genre which can be traced to the 1820's in Lisbon, Portugal, but probably has much earlier origins. Although the origins are difficult to trace, today fado is commonly regarded as simply a form of song which can be about anything, but must follow a certain traditional structure. In popular belief, fado is a form of music characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor, and infused with a sense of resignation, fate and melancholy.

Gipsy Kings (originally Los Reyes) are a musical group founded in 1979 in Arles, France. The band, whose members have Catalan heritage, play a blend of Catalan rumba, flamenco, salsa, and pop. They perform mostly in Spanish but also mix in Catalan, French, and languages of southern France, such as Occitan.

Although the group members were born in France, their parents were mostly gitanos (Spanish Romani) who fled Spain during the 1930's Spanish Civil War. They are known for bringing rumba flamenca, a pop-oriented music distantly derived from traditional flamenco and rumba, to a worldwide audience, and for their interpretations of English-language pop hits.

André Gagnon OC OQ (2 August 1936 – 3 December 2020) was a Canadian pianist, composer, conductor, arranger, and actor, known for his fusion of classical and pop styles, including compositions Neiges, Smash, Chevauchée, Surprise, Donna, and Mouvements in the jazz, classical, new age and pop fields. Gagnon also composed for television, including La Souris Verte, Vivre en ce Pays, Format 60, Format 30,Techno-Flash, and Les Forges de Saint-Maurice as well as for theatre with such productions as La Poudre aux Yeux, Doña Rosita, Terre d'Aube, La Dame de Chez Maxim's, and Wouf-Wouf. Some of his most notable songs are "Pour les Amants", "Turluteries", and "Mes Quatre Saisons".

"Impressions", originally released in 1983, is an instrumental album combining elements of jazz, classical and new age.
